Media images of political leaders - 2010 Elections

This thesis titled The Media Images of Political Leaders - 2010 Elections focuses on descriptions and depictions of Czech political leaders, Vojtěch Filip, Jiří Paroubek, Petr Nečas, Radek John and Karel Schwarzenberg in printed press. The thesis contains an introduction of the leaders and the parties which they led during the 2010 parliamentary elections. The thesis shows the differing images of the leaders in various media. It contains a quantitative content analysis of MF Dnes, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny, Právo and Blesk daily newspapers in the pre-election period between 1 April and 27 May 2010, examining the frequency of informing about the leaders, differences in their presentation and attention given to each of them. The content and tone of individual articles has been examined as well. The thesis also analyses the ratios between informing about the individual leaders and other topics in each newspaper. The theoretical concept of the thesis is media communication in relation to politics. Political communication is examined from the view of the theory of political parallelism and the influence of media on politics.
Social media activism: an analysis of how climate activists use Instagram and encourage green behaviour among their followers.

Climate crisis is arguably one of the most pressing issues of our societies currently. As social media has become an important part of our everyday lives and is a tool with the capacity to influence the opinion and behaviour of people, this master thesis wants to explore how climate activists portray themselves on the visual social media platform Instagram and encourage offline green action among their followers. The research is based on the qualitative content analysis of 12 semi-structured interviews with young climate activists who use Instagram and the analysis of their posts. The thesis uses Goffman's presentation of self in an online context, internet activism, the personalisation of politics, social media influencers and climate communication as its theoretical framework. Results showed that climate activists not only use social media strategies of influencers on Instagram (often unwillingly), but also heavily rely on the personification of their messages and sharing aspects of their personal lives to establish connections with their followers. Climate activists interviewed qualified as micro-influencers, which allowed them to form deep relationships with their audience because of the small follower base and gave them the possibility to assess the extent of their impact on their audience's...

The bachelors thesis, Northern League (Lega Nord): Umberto Bossi's and Matteo Salvini's role in setting the ideology of this political party, examines the importance and role of the political party leader. The timeframe of this analysis is from 1992 till 1994 and from 2013 till 2018. The intention is to introduce both leaders, the principles of their communication and the foundations of party's ideology in the time of their leadership. The objective of the thesis is to prove that the leader has a major influence in defining the ideology of this political party. The concept of Gideon Rath's and Tamir Shaefer's behavioral and media personalization of politics has been applied further. At the end, the thesis confirms the essential influence of a leader of a political party on its ideology through comparison of the communication of both mentioned leaders, through analysis of their role in defining the ideology of the party, and using examples of personalization of politics. Several expert opinions and articles from electronic media are presented to support the result of this analysis.
